Talking passionately, Anne is a big believer in the difference you can make to a child’s life by fostering, “it is so important that they have people that want to spend time with them, want to look after them want to show them what there is, what opportunities there are.” With Dave adding “so they know they’re safe and have a routine and they can do the things the other kids in their school can… so you see them really change over the time we have them.”

Foster carers talk a lot about their personal reasons why they decide to foster for their local council, and Dave and Anne site B&NES’s support as being a real positive of fostering with their local council. “The help that and support that we get from BANES has been really good as far as training is concerned.” They also site the presence of an in-house psychologist as being something of real benefit to them, offering support during those challenging moments as a foster carer.

What would they say to anyone thinking of becoming a foster carer? “Do it if you’re thinking about it. You’ve got the heart for it and you’ve got the heart for the children, and that’s what its about.”
